Indication/Uses: 

1. Upper Respiratory Tract Infections

   • Usage: Effective in treating bacterial infections of the upper respiratory tract such as:
     • Pharyngitis/Tonsillitis: Often caused by Streptococcus pyogenes.
     • Sinusitis: Inflammation or infection of the sinuses.

2. Lower Respiratory Tract Infections

   • Usage: Used to treat lower respiratory tract infections including:
     • Community-Acquired Pneumonia (CAP): Commonly caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, or atypical pathogens like Mycoplasma pneumoniae.
     • Acute Bronchitis: Bacterial inflammation of the bronchial tubes.

3. Skin and Soft Tissue Infections

   • Usage: Indicated for uncomplicated skin and soft tissue infections, including:
     • Impetigo: A contagious skin infection typically caused by Staphylococcus aureus or Streptococcus pyogenes.
     • Cellulitis: Bacterial skin infection leading to redness, swelling, and pain.

4. Ear Infections

   • Usage: Commonly prescribed for:
     • Acute Otitis Media: Middle ear infection in children and adults.

5. Sexually Transmitted Infections

Dosage and Administration

• Pediatric Dosage:

  • General Infection: The typical dosage for children is 10 mg/kg on the first day (maximum of 500 mg), followed by 5 mg/kg (maximum of 250 mg) once daily on days 2 through 5.
  • Otitis Media: A single dose of 30 mg/kg can be used as an alternative regimen.

• Adult Dosage:

  • Although this formulation is primarily intended for pediatric use, the equivalent adult dosage for tablets or capsules would be 500 mg on the first day, followed by 250 mg once daily on days 2 through 5 for respiratory tract infections.
