Description:
Used to treat certain infections caused by bacteria, such as bronchitis(infection of the airway tubes leading to the lungs); gonorrhea (a sexually transmitted disease); Lyme disease (an infection that may develop after a person is bitten by a tick); and infections of the skin, ears, sinuses, throat, tonsils,, and urinary tract. Cefuroxime is in a class of medications called cephalosporin antibiotics. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria.

Product Description:

Cefuroxime (Execore) 500mg Film-Coated Tablets are a broad-spectrum antibiotic in the cephalosporin class, used to treat a variety of bacterial infections. Cefuroxime works by inhibiting the synthesis of the bacterial cell wall, leading to the death of the bacteria. It is effective against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, making it suitable for treating a wide range of infections.

Each tablet contains 500mg of Cefuroxime and is designed for oral administration. It is typically prescribed for moderate to severe infections and comes in 100 tablets per pack.

  • Severe gastrointestinal effects:

    • Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea, which may present as severe, persistent diarrhea.

  • Liver dysfunction:

    • Symptoms of liver damage include yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice), dark urine, or upper abdominal pain.

    • Symptoms such as swelling in the legs or feet, reduced urine output, or fatigue may indicate kidney issues.

  • Severe skin reactions:

    • Stevens-Johnson syndrome or toxic epidermal necrolysis (rare but serious).

If you experience any of these serious side effects, contact a healthcare provider immediately.

Contraindications:

Cefuroxime (Execore) 500mg tablets should not be used in the following cases:

  1. Hypersensitivity (allergic reaction) to Cefuroxime, other cephalosporins, or any of its ingredients.

  2. Severe renal impairment (especially if the patient is not undergoing dialysis).

  3. History of anaphylactic reaction to penicillin or other beta-lactam antibiotics, as cross-reactivity can occur in some patients.

  4. Pregnancy: Cefuroxime is considered Category B for pregnancy (no evidence of risk in humans based on animal studies), but should be used only if clearly needed. Consult a healthcare provider before use.

  5. Breastfeeding: Cefuroxime passes into breast milk in small amounts. It is generally considered safe during breastfeeding, but consultation with a doctor is advised.

Warnings and Precautions:

  • Allergic reactions: Cefuroxime (Execore) may cause allergic reactions, especially in patients who are allergic to penicillins or other beta-lactam antibiotics. Be cautious if you have a known allergy to these drugs.

  • Gastrointestinal effects: Cefuroxime can cause gastrointestinal side effects, including Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea. If severe diarrhea occurs, discontinue use and seek medical advice.

  • Renal function: Cefuroxime is excreted via the kidneys. In patients with impaired kidney function, dose adjustment may be necessary. Renal function should be monitored regularly.

  • Use in children: Cefuroxime is generally safe for children, but the dosage must be determined based on age and weight. Use under medical supervision is recommended.

  • Superinfection: Prolonged use of Cefuroxime may lead to overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms, such as fungi. If a secondary infection develops, appropriate treatment should be initiated.

Drug Interactions:

Cefuroxime (Execore) may interact with other medications, including:

  • Antacids: Can reduce the absorption of Cefuroxime. Take Cefuroxime at least 2 hours before or after antacids.

  • Probenecid: May interfere with the renal excretion of Cefuroxime, leading to increased drug levels.

  • Oral contraceptives: While Cefuroxime does not significantly affect the effectiveness of oral contraceptives, it is advisable to use an additional form of contraception during treatment.

  • Aminoglycosides: The concurrent use of aminoglycoside antibiotics (such as gentamicin) may increase the risk of kidney damage.

Storage:

  • Store Cefuroxime (Execore) tablets at room temperature (15°C to 30°C).

  • Keep the tablets in a dry place, away from moisture and heat.

  • Keep out of reach of children.

Conclusion:

Cefuroxime (Execore) 500mg film-coated tablets are an effective antibiotic for treating a wide range of bacterial infections, including respiratory, urinary, skin, gastrointestinal, and bone infections. It is generally well tolerated, but like all antibiotics, it should be used according to the prescribed dosage to prevent resistance. Regular monitoring may be required for renal function and liver function, especially in patients with underlying conditions. As with any antibiotic, completing the full course of therapy is important, even if symptoms improve, to prevent the recurrence of the infection. Always consult your healthcare provider before starting or stopping any medication.
