Product Description:

Pregabalin (Probal 75) is an anticonvulsant and neuropathic pain medication. It contains 75 mg of Pregabalin per capsule and is primarily used for managing various neurological and psychiatric conditions. Probal 75 works by binding to specific calcium channels in the central nervous system, reducing the release of excitatory neurotransmitters that contribute to conditions like seizures, nerve pain, and generalized anxiety disorder. This product comes in a pack of 100 capsules, offering an effective treatment option for those suffering from nerve-related conditions, seizures, and certain anxiety disorders.

Indications:

Pregabalin (Probal 75) is indicated for the following conditions:

  1. Neuropathic Pain:

    • Used to treat nerve pain associated with conditions like diabetic neuropathy or post-herpetic neuralgia (nerve pain after shingles).

  2. Fibromyalgia:

    • Helps to manage fibromyalgia, a condition characterized by widespread pain, fatigue, and tenderness in the muscles and soft tissues.

  3. Seizure Disorders:

    • Probal 75 is used as an adjunctive treatment for partial-onset seizures in patients with epilepsy.

  4. Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD):

    • Pregabalin is used for the treatment of generalized anxiety disorder to help reduce excessive worry and anxiety.

  5. Spinal Cord Injury Pain:

    • Pregabalin is also used to treat pain associated with spinal cord injuries.

Dosage:

The usual dosage of Pregabalin (Probal 75) varies depending on the condition being treated:

For Neuropathic Pain:

  • Initial Dose: 150 mg per day, divided into two or three doses (e.g., 75 mg twice daily or 50 mg three times daily).

  • Maintenance Dose: May be increased to 300 mg per day after 3 to 7 days based on the patient's response. The maximum dose is typically 600 mg per day.

For Fibromyalgia:

  • Initial Dose: 75 mg twice daily.

  • Maintenance Dose: The dose may be increased to 150 mg twice daily after 1 week. The maximum dose is 450 mg per day.

For Seizure Disorders:

  • Initial Dose: Start with 150 mg per day, divided into two or three doses.

  • Maintenance Dose: Can be increased to 300 mg per day after 3 to 7 days based on response. The maximum recommended dose is 600 mg per day.

For Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD):

  • Initial Dose: 150 mg per day, divided into two or three doses.

  • Maintenance Dose: Can be increased to 300 mg per day after 1 week. The dose may be increased further based on response, up to a maximum of 600 mg per day.

For Spinal Cord Injury Pain:

  • Initial Dose: Start with 150 mg per day, divided into two or three doses.

  • Maintenance Dose: Increase to 300 mg per day after 1 week, with a maximum dose of 600 mg per day.

Side Effects:

Common side effects of Pregabalin (Probal 75) may include:

Common Side Effects:

  • Dizziness or drowsiness.

  • Weight gain or increased appetite.

  • Swelling in the hands, feet, or legs (edema).

  • Dry mouth.

  • Blurred vision.

  • Fatigue or tiredness.

  • Difficulty concentrating or memory problems.

Serious Side Effects:

  • Allergic reactions, including rash, itching, swelling of the face, lips, or throat, and difficulty breathing (may indicate a severe allergic reaction or anaphylaxis).

  • Suicidal thoughts or behavior: Some people taking Pregabalin may experience changes in mood, including thoughts of harming themselves.

  • Severe dizziness or fainting.

  • Muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness, especially if accompanied by fever and dark-colored urine (may indicate a rare muscle-related side effect known as rhabdomyolysis).

  • Heart failure (rare, but can occur in susceptible individuals).

If any of these serious side effects occur, immediate medical attention is required.

Contraindications:

Pregabalin (Probal 75) should be avoided or used with caution in the following conditions:

  1. Hypersensitivity: Known allergy to Pregabalin or any of the capsule's components. A history of severe allergic reactions to Pregabalin would make the use of this medication contraindicated.

  2. Severe Renal Impairment: Pregabalin is primarily excreted by the kidneys, so patients with severe kidney impairment (creatinine clearance less than 30 mL/min) may require dose adjustments, or the medication may be contraindicated.

  3. Heart Failure: In some patients, Pregabalin has been associated with edema (swelling), and in rare cases, heart failure. It should be used cautiously in those with a history of heart failure.

  4. Pregnancy: Pregabalin is classified as Category C for pregnancy, meaning its use should be avoided unless absolutely necessary. It can harm an unborn baby, so it is important to discuss the risks and benefits with a healthcare provider if pregnant or planning to become pregnant.

  5. Breastfeeding: Pregabalin is excreted in breast milk, so it is generally not recommended for use during breastfeeding unless the benefits outweigh the risks.

  6. Suicidal Behavior: Pregabalin has been associated with suicidal thoughts and behavior in some patients. It should be used with caution in individuals with a history of depression or suicidal thoughts.

Precautions:

  • Caution in Elderly: Older adults may be more sensitive to the side effects of Pregabalin, particularly related to kidney function and drowsiness. Dose adjustments may be necessary.

  • Withdrawal: Pregabalin should not be stopped suddenly, as abrupt discontinuation may lead to withdrawal symptoms, including headache, nausea, insomnia, anxiety, and seizures. If discontinuation is necessary, it should be done gradually under the supervision of a healthcare provider.

  • Alcohol Use: Pregabalin can cause drowsiness and dizziness, and these effects may be enhanced when combined with alcohol. It is advisable to avoid alcohol while taking Pregabalin.

Drug Interactions:

Pregabalin (Probal 75) can interact with other medications, including:

  1. Central Nervous System (CNS) Depressants: Combining Pregabalin with CNS depressants like benzodiazepines, opioids, and alcohol can increase the risk of drowsiness, dizziness, and respiratory depression. Close monitoring is necessary if these drugs are used together.

  2. Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme (ACE) Inhibitors: The use of Pregabalin with ACE inhibitors (e.g., lisinopril) may increase the risk of angioedema (swelling of the deeper layers of the skin).

  3. Diuretics: The combination of Pregabalin and diuretics can increase the risk of edema (swelling), especially in individuals with preexisting kidney problems.

  4. Other Antiepileptics: The use of Pregabalin in combination with other anticonvulsant drugs should be monitored for any potential interactions that could lead to increased CNS depression or reduced effectiveness of treatment.

  5. Alcohol: Alcohol can intensify the sedative effects of Pregabalin, increasing the risk of dizziness, drowsiness, and impaired coordination.

Conclusion:

Pregabalin (Probal 75) 75mg capsules are used to treat conditions like neuropathic pain, fibromyalgia, seizures, and generalized anxiety disorder. While effective in managing these conditions, Pregabalin may cause side effects such as dizziness, fatigue, and weight gain. It should be used with caution in individuals with kidney issues, heart failure, or a history of suicidal thoughts. Always follow your healthcare provider's instructions, and never stop or adjust the dosage without their guidance. If you experience serious side effects, seek medical attention immediately.
