Indication/Uses: 

1. Hypercholesterolemia:

   • Treatment of primary hypercholesterolemia (including heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia) and mixed dyslipidemia to reduce elevated total cholesterol, LDL-C, ApoB, and triglycerides, and to increase HDL-C.

2. Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease:

   • Used in the primary prevention of cardiovascular disease to reduce the risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, and arterial revascularization procedures in patients without clinically evident coronary heart disease but with multiple risk factors.

3. Hypertriglyceridemia:

   • Adjunctive therapy to diet for the treatment of patients with hypertriglyceridemia.

4. Homozygous Familial Hypercholesterolemia:

   • For patients with this genetic disorder that causes very high cholesterol levels, as an adjunct to other lipid-lowering treatments or if such treatments are unavailable.

5. Atherosclerosis:

   • Slow the progression of atherosclerosis as part of a treatment strategy to lower total-C and LDL-C to target levels.

Uses:

Rosuvastatin, a member of the statin class of drugs, is used to:

• Lower LDL Cholesterol (Low-Density Lipoprotein):

  • Commonly referred to as "bad" cholesterol, which can build up in the walls of your arteries and form plaques.

• Increase HDL Cholesterol (High-Density Lipoprotein):

  • Known as "good" cholesterol, which helps remove bad cholesterol from the bloodstream.

• Lower Triglycerides:

  • Another type of fat in the blood.

• Reduce the Risk of Heart Attack and Stroke:

  • By managing cholesterol levels, rosuvastatin helps prevent cardiovascular events.

Dosage and Administration:

• Dosage:

  • The usual recommended starting dose is 10-20 mg once daily. For patients requiring a large reduction in LDL-C (more than 45%), a starting dose of 20 mg may be considered.
  • The maintenance dose range is 5-40 mg once daily.
  • The 40 mg dose is only recommended for patients who do not achieve their LDL-C goal with a 20 mg dose and have severe hypercholesterolemia at high cardiovascular risk.

• Administration:

  • Rosuvastatin is taken orally, with or without food, usually once daily.
