Product Description:

Salbutamol Sulfate (Vonwelt) 4mg Tablet 100's is a bronchodilator medication used primarily to treat respiratory conditions such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Salbutamol is a beta-2 adrenergic agonist that works by stimulating the beta-2 receptors in the smooth muscles of the airways, causing relaxation of these muscles and resulting in bronchodilation (widening of the airways), which makes breathing easier.

Each tablet contains 4 mg of Salbutamol Sulfate, and the product comes in a bottle containing 100 tablets. Salbutamol (also known as Albuterol) is effective in both preventing and treating bronchospasm (tightening of the airways), commonly seen in conditions such as asthma, COPD, and other obstructive pulmonary diseases.

Indications:

Salbutamol Sulfate (Vonwelt 4mg Tablet) is indicated for:

  • Asthma: To relieve symptoms such as wheezing, shortness of breath, and coughing caused by asthma.

  • Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD): To improve airflow and reduce symptoms like wheezing and breathlessness.

  • Bronchospasm: To relieve bronchospasm (tightening of the airways) caused by factors such as exercise, cold air, or allergens.

  • Acute asthma exacerbations: As a part of the treatment during a sudden worsening of asthma symptoms.

It is used for maintenance therapy in patients with chronic respiratory conditions and also for acute relief of symptoms during asthma attacks.

Dosage:

The usual dose of Salbutamol Sulfate (Vonwelt 4mg Tablet) will depend on the patient's condition, age, and response to treatment.

For Adults and Children (over 12 years old):

  • Asthma or COPD:

    • The typical starting dose is 2 to 4 mg, taken 3 to 4 times a day.

    • The usual maximum dose is 24 mg per day (6 tablets) depending on the severity of symptoms.

For Children (6-12 years old):

  • Asthma or COPD:

    • The usual dose is 2 mg taken 2 to 3 times a day.

    • Maximum daily dose: 12 mg (3 tablets).

Acute Bronchospasm:

  • In cases of acute symptoms or asthma attacks, the dose may be increased based on the doctor's recommendation. However, patients should not exceed the prescribed daily maximum dosage.

Administration: The tablets should be taken orally with water. It can be taken with or without food. Ensure to follow the healthcare provider's instructions regarding timing and dosage.

Side Effects:

Common side effects of Salbutamol Sulfate (Vonwelt 4mg) may include:

  • Tremors (shaking of the hands or feet).

  • Palpitations (feeling of a fast or irregular heartbeat).

  • Headache.

  • Nervousness or anxiety.

  • Dizziness or lightheadedness.

  • Muscle cramps.

  • Insomnia (difficulty sleeping).

  • Dry mouth or throat irritation.

  • Nausea.

Less common but more serious side effects may include:

  • Paradoxical bronchospasm: Rarely, Salbutamol can cause tightening of the airways (bronchospasm) rather than relief. If this happens, stop the medication immediately and seek medical help.

  • Chest pain or tightness: It could indicate a heart problem, particularly in people with pre-existing heart conditions.

  • Severe allergic reactions: Symptoms may include rash, itching, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, difficulty breathing, or anaphylaxis.

  • Hypokalemia: A decrease in potassium levels, which may lead to muscle weakness, fatigue, or irregular heart rhythms.

  • Hyperglycemia: High blood sugar levels, especially in patients with diabetes.

  • Cardiovascular effects: Increased heart rate (tachycardia), arrhythmias, or palpitations, especially with high doses.

If any serious side effects occur, seek immediate medical attention.

Contraindications:

Salbutamol Sulfate (Vonwelt 4mg Tablet) should be avoided or used with caution in the following situations:

  • Hypersensitivity to Salbutamol or any other ingredients in the formulation. Signs of an allergic reaction may include rash, itching, swelling, or difficulty breathing.

  • History of severe heart disease or arrhythmias: Salbutamol can increase heart rate and may exacerbate underlying heart conditions like arrhythmias.

  • Hyperthyroidism: Use with caution as Salbutamol may worsen symptoms of thyroid disorders.

  • Uncontrolled hypertension: As Salbutamol may increase blood pressure, it should be used with caution in patients with high blood pressure.

  • Pheochromocytoma (a tumor of the adrenal gland): Salbutamol can potentially exacerbate symptoms due to the release of catecholamines from the tumor.

  • Severe kidney or liver impairment: Dose adjustments may be necessary for patients with liver or kidney conditions, and the medication should be used under medical supervision.

  • Use in pregnant or breastfeeding women: Should be done with caution, as it is classified as a category C drug during pregnancy. It should only be used if the benefits outweigh the risks, and under the supervision of a healthcare provider.

Precautions:

  • Cardiovascular disease: Patients with heart disease, especially coronary artery disease, should be monitored closely as Salbutamol can lead to increased heart rate and blood pressure.

  • Diabetes: Since Salbutamol may increase blood sugar levels, patients with diabetes should monitor their blood glucose closely while using this medication.

  • Electrolyte imbalances: Salbutamol can lead to hypokalemia, particularly with higher doses, so potassium levels may need to be monitored.

  • Use with other beta-agonists: If used together with other beta-agonists or sympathomimetic medications, there may be an increased risk of side effects such as increased heart rate or tremors.

  • Children under 6 years: The safety and efficacy of Salbutamol in children under 6 years have not been established.

Important Note: Always follow the dosage and instructions provided by your healthcare provider or pharmacist. Overuse or prolonged use of Salbutamol Sulfate (Vonwelt 4mg) can lead to significant side effects, including cardiovascular and metabolic effects. If you experience any side effects or have concerns about the medication, consult with your healthcare provider.
